I’ve just returned from the grand opening of the new Selene Ocean Trawlers yard in Zhuhai, China. Was fantastic to reconnect with so many Selene colleagues from all around the world. Yachtfinders Global is one of the oldest Selene dealers worldwide so was particularly enjoyable to recognise the growth as we celebrated not just the increase in personnel, but also to celebrate the physical expansion at the headquarters.
While there, there was great opportunity to ‘chew the fat.’ During the event many discussions were tabled, and one very popular item on the agenda was the ability to promote and encourage the world -wide practice of tourist delivery direct from the factory.
With shipping costs continuing to rise, this option would save owners a significant amount of money. Selene yachts have a range of around 3,000nm, so the idea is simple; you pick up your new Selene at the yard, and we arrange a professional skipper to accompany you on the voyage to Subic Bay in the Philippines — a popular destination roughly 700 nm way. This serves as an ideal shakedown trip, giving a new owner time to learn the boat hands‑on under the guidance of a professional skipper.
We have excellent contacts in the region and know Subic Bay well. It’s a great place to spend time, and Southeast Asia offers some of the best cruising grounds in the world. I’ve lived there myself, so I can say that with confidence. From there, you can continue your adventure or plan your return passage to New Zealand.
This concept is still being fine-tuned, but what an exciting one. If you’re interested, contact Yachtfinders Global. With 29 years of experience, we’re well-versed in tourist delivery and ready to help make it happen.
