What is SEMCO Teak Sealer?
SEMCO Teak Sealer is a penetrating wood treatment designed to restore, protect, and enhance teak and other hardwoods without forming a surface film.
How is SEMCO different from traditional varnish or oils?
Unlike varnish, SEMCO does not create a glossy coating that can peel or crack. It penetrates the timber, preserving a natural look while protecting the wood.
How long does SEMCO Teak Sealer last?
Longevity depends on exposure and conditions, but in marine environments, a maintenance coat is typically required annually. Seasonal recoats will maintain the finish for years, recoat time is determined by wear and tear more than time. To test for recoat, splash some water on the surface. If the water beads up and slowly soaks in the Sealer is still working. If it soaks right in, then it is time for a recoat. Wash first, then once dry apply a single coat liberally and wipe surface with a rag
How do I apply SEMCO Teak Sealer?
Apply using a brush, pad, or sprayer onto clean, dry teak. Allow the product to penetrate evenly. No sanding is required between applications. Wipe off excess
Do I need to clean teak before applying SEMCO?
Yes. For best results, teak should be thoroughly cleaned using a suitable teak cleaner, such as the SEMCO Two-Part Cleaner, to remove dirt, oils, and contaminants.
Will SEMCO make the teak slippery?
No. SEMCO penetrates the wood rather than forming a surface film, preserving the natural non-slip properties of teak.
What colour options are available?
SEMCO is available in five tones:
Cleartone, Natural, Honeytone, Goldtone, and Classic Brown—allowing you to achieve your desired finish.
Can SEMCO be used on other wood types?
Yes. SEMCO is suitable for most exterior hardwoods and can also be used in selected interior applications where a natural finish is preferred.
How do I maintain teak treated with SEMCO?
Maintenance is simple—clean the surface as needed and reapply. No stripping or sanding is required, making upkeep fast and cost-effective.

Q. Will Semco affect my caulking?
No. Semco will not affect any proper grade marine chalking as the process of Semco application is designed not to interfere with this standard of caulking. We recommend you try a test area first just in case the caulking on the vessel is of inferior quality as this can lead to the cheaper caulking being left sticky.
Q. How is Semco different from others?
Semco Sealers allows the wood to breathe. Wood expands and contracts naturally throughout all weather conditions, by using Semco it enables the wood to act as it does, Semco does not block or obstruct the surface of the wood because it soaks into the wood and protects from within, avoiding the cracking and splitting that some other products can cause.
Q. When was Semco established?
Semco was first established in 1976. It was and continues to be used by thousands of professional boat builders. Thankfully it is now available worldwide for everyone to use allowing all of us to be able to gain the professional finish we want.
Q. How long does unused Semco last?
If you have any Semco left over once you have finished your project – just replace the lid tightly, gently turn the tin upside down and back up the right way to create a seal from within and store above 5 degrees and your Semco will be good for re-sealing whenever you want it.
Q. Can Semco be used on other woods apart from teak?
Yes. Semco can be used on any hard wood including Iroko.
Q. Do you have any tips on applying Semco Sealer?
