The Hylas H57 that changed the way we think about interior design: A Hot Lab signature Hylas

Since the earliest days of Hylas production, there has always been a sense that Hylas yachts are an evolution. Each owner makes their own mark on the build. As a result, there is a very natural sense of intrigue amongst owners to see what the next build chooses to do and whether their own ideas are adopted.

One yacht, however, has stood out from the others in its interior design. Commissioned in the first half of 2023, SV Meraki has brought a whole new level of interior designer enhancement.

What makes this yacht quite unique is that an Italian superyacht interior design house, “Hot Lab”, was commissioned to oversee the yacht’s interior and exterior look and feel.

The owner was also quite adamant that the yacht should adhere almost exactly to the renderings that the designers proposed. This posed several unique challenges that the factory had to accommodate.

Hylas has consciously moved away from this level of customisation for most of the production capacity. However, in the same way a fashion show “influences” high-end designs, having a look at Meraki may spark an idea that could influence your own yacht-building decisions.

The owners of Meraki are no strangers to the value an award-winning interior designer can bring to a project. They gave Hot Lab an open brief, and the interior is clearly “designer” and befitting a yacht that elevates the lifestyle in the performance cruiser market.

The factory sourced fabrics, woods, cutting surfaces, designer fixtures and fittings from around the globe. CEO Andy Huang recognised the complexity in a project like this, but there is also a good deal of learning and opportunities to engage with suppliers that may be called upon for a future build.

“There is nothing more exciting than seeing a truly spectacular yacht coming to life in our facilities,” said Andy Huang. “This is something that is only possible if the yard is heavily vested in the brand. We will never compromise on quality. As this was a showcase concept, we were willing to put in the time to ensure a Hylas quality finish.”
