‘I came into the Tiber River, which opens to the sea near Ostia. Ostia was the old Roman Port (for Rome) for a few hundred years, until the Tiber changed course during one of its many floods, making the port obsolete.
“Old” Ostia is now a massive archaeological dig. We spent a day there and saw about half of it!! There are moorings on both sides of the Tiber for about 5 km, and there are many private boatyards—all for mooring, but many with small repair facilities attached. Using the Navily App, I chose Blue Dolphin. But it could have been one of many.
As an aside, the Navily App is amazing. I did everything on it; booked Marinas, looked at berth prices, found anchorages, selected anchorages, planned journey times, etc. Probably the most helpful tool I had on the boat for over 3 months!!

From Ostia, it’s less than an hour on a train to Rome, and they leave every 20 minutes are as cheap as chips – something like $6 a trip from memory, and that gets a trip on the Metro or Bus anywhere else in Rome.
The Marina is a bit disconnected from the town; however, the staff will happily run you to the train station, supermarket or even a local restaurant—all part of the very reasonable fee. We rafted up for a week while we cleaned and prepared the boat. Then, when ready, the Marina pulled me out for winter. All very easy!’ Described by owner.
